General note
The Whig Standard Building is located at 304-310 King Street East. "The site on which the Whig Standard building stands today is of historical significance, not only for Kingston, but also for the Province of Ontario. Saint George's Church, Kingston's first house of worship once stood on this site and it was in this church that Upper Canada's first Lieutenant-Governor, Colonel John Graves Simcoe, took the oath of office on 8 July 1792. The building occupied by the Whig-Standard dates back to 1894. It was enlarged in 1942 and altared in 1962." (information taken from page 66 of 'Kingston Splendid Heritage').
