Steacys store was founded in March 1881 by Edward T. Steacy and J. Walsh at 106 Princess St. Twenty-two years later the store was moved to 118-120 Princess St. Originally Steacy and Walsh, the firm changed to Steacy & Steacy, the partners being Edward T. Steacy, one of the founders and Joseph J. Steacy. General dry goods trade included a millinery department and a dress-making dept.
