Biographische Angaben
Sir Charles James Stuart (Baronet) was born at Quebec, in 1824 or 1825 and died in February of 1901. He succeeded to his title upon the death of his father, Sir James Stuart, on July 14th, 1853. Stuart also became heir to the property of Sheriff Charles Stuart of Kingston.
Bestandsgeschichte
This sous-fonds forms part of the Kirkpatrick-Nickle legal collection. The documents came from the law firm of Nickle and Nickle, which was founded by Thomas Kirkpatrick in 1828, and which continued under various names (Kirkpatrick Nickle) and with various partners until 1968. The Stuart estate papers were deposited, along with the papers of other clients of the firm, in Queen's University Archives during the 1960's.
Eingrenzung und Inhalt
The sous-fonds consists of correspondence, Power of Attorneys, deeds, maps, plans and notices which document Stuart's inheritance of the north west part of the Magdalen Ferguson tract (roughly bound by Division, James, Plum, Barrie and Pine streets) in Kingston which he prepared to sell off by auction. The records reflect Sir Charles' decision to settle partition of his lands from his uncle's (the Archdeacon George O'Kill Stuart) and the management of unsold land, some of which was located in Loughborough township.
