Histórico

Henry Sadleir was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1796, and first came to Kingston as a British Officer in 1817. He married Martha Herchmer of Kingston and after tours of duty elsewhere returned to live in Kingston in 1837. They had three children Charles Anderson Sadleir, Jane Anderson Daleir and Martha Herchmer Sadleir. Although settling in Kingston, Henry Sadleir continued to hold an interest in Irish affairs for the rest of his life.

In Kingston Sadleir was active in the Militia, St. George's Church, municipal affairs (he served as an alderman) and on friendly enough terms with Sir John A. MacDonald to be asked for a loan.

Controversy however, loomed large in Sadleir's life. He frequently changed residences - at one time living at Heathfield; in 1848 he took part in a duel (neither participant was killed); and there were problems with his children and their respective marriages resulting in Sadleir calling in a note he held on his son-in-law William Allan Geddes and having his daughter Jane's household furnishings sold.

After carefully writing his will in April 1860, appointing Thomas Kirkpatrick and the Rev. Edward Bower of Barriefield as executors, Sadleir shot himself.
