Administrative history

The Department of Alumni Relations of Queen's University serves as the secretariat for the Queen's University Alumni Association since 1985. At that time the Department reported to the Vice-Principal Institutional Relations. Since 1993, the Department has been part of the Office of Advancement and reports to the Vice Principal Advancement. The Department of Alumni Relations, in partnership with the volunteers of the Queen's University Alumni Association, supports alumni to keep connected with the University and each other through various initiatives. These initiatives include the development of an international network of Alumni Branches, organization of Homecoming and other reunion events, and operation of a student/alumni mentoring program.

Fonds consists of notes compiled by Dr. Walter Ford Connell during Western Canada fund-raising tour; records, 1926-2000, including Alumni Branch files; fund-raising files 1966-1986; class lists, correspondence, guest books, scrapbooks, and photographs pertaining to class reunions, 1926-2000; correspondence, memoranda, minutes and agenda, reports, budget and other financial material, photographs, printed material relating to various events sponsored by the Department during the University's Sesquicentennial celebrations; correspondence, memoranda, scripts, and advertising material relating to the creation, production, and distribution of various promotional films, in conjunction with the University's Department of Film Studies, and sponsored by the Department of Alumni Affairs; Deceased Alumni Files ca. 1930's-2000's; one reel-to-reel tape containing various Queen's songs, including 'Oil Thigh' by the Queen's Bands and by the the Queen's Choir, and the 'Old Queen's Sweater' as recorded by Andrew Marshall; an audio cassette, produced by the Department as part of the University's Sesquicentennial celebrations, entitled, 'Cha Gheill! - The Queen's Singers, Queen's University 1841-1991', directed by Dr. Mark Sirett, series of photographs of recipients of the 'Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching' (1975-2000); photographs of classes, sports teams and events; photographs of Orientation Week, Parents BBQ and Move-In Day; photographs of reunions, Homecoming events, and dinners including the John Orr Dinner; a sound recording featuring the annual John Orr Dinner, held 14 November 1987; photos of various events held over the years at Summerhill including receptions for honorary degree and other award recipients; videocassette and DVD copies of a promotional film entitled, 'Queen's University, 1841-1926', that was shown to Alumni Branches and other interested persons as part of a major fundraising campaign undertaken by the University in 1926; taped interview with Prudence Austin, oldest living Queen's graduate at the time (May 1990).
