Administrative history

The Kingston Dairy School was officially opened on 13 December 1894, by the Kingston School of Mining and Agriculture. In 1895, there were 109 students attending the School. Although the School of Mining would eventually be amalgamated with Queen’s University, the Kingston Dairy School was placed under the management of the provincial government in 1896. The building was located at the corner of Barrie and Clergy Streets, and expanded over the years prior to it burnin down on 17 January 1922. The provincial government decided to rebuild it immediately, and construction was completed the next year. By this time (1923), the School was known as the Eastern Dairy School, and was one of only two dairy schools in the province. In 1927, the School became part of the Kemptville Agricultural School. The Eastern Dairy School was permanently closed in 1936.
