Geschichte
John Clark Murray was born in Paisley, Scotland. He studied philosophy at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh (1850-1856, 1859). After a period of study at Heidelberg and Gottingen, he was appointed Professor of Philosophy at Queen's College in Kingston in 1862. In April 1870, Queen's Senate resolved to open a few "classes for ladies" and it was approved by the Board of Trustees. One of these classes was Rhetoric by Professor John Clark Murray. A year later, Murray gave a public lecture entitled "The Higher Education of Women". Shortly thereafter, he left Queen's and moved to McGill where he was to remain as Frothingham Professor of Mental and Moral Philosophy until his retirement in 1903.
