Biographical history

Horace Carleton Mabee,1881-1970, was born in Forestville, Ontario in 1881 to James and Clare Mabee. He grew up in Odessa, Ontario where his father practiced family medicine. Mabee entered Queen’s University in 1893 and graduated with an Arts degree, a B.Sc., and a MD. on May 5, 1910. Mabee passed his final medical exam from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and graduated on July 18, 1911. Dr. H. Mabee was a family physician in Kingston, Ontario, who occasionally performed surgeries at the local hospitals. On June 29, 1970 at the age of eighty-nine, Dr. H. Mabee died at Hotel Dieu Hospital and left behind his beloved wife Claire Adams.

Custodial history

These records were originally transferred to Queen's University Archives in the early 1980's. The material was then transferred back to the Kingston General Hospital archives program to manage, but the material was subsequently de-accessioned from their holdings and gifted to the University in 2010.

Scope and content

The fonds is a record of Dr. Horace Mabee's medical practice in Kingston, Ontario and consists of three daybooks. These patient account books document the daily medical activities of Dr. H. Mabee and include information about patients, the services provided, fees charged and payment received.
