History

Dr. Lawrence Hooey was born at Paisley, Ontario, 29 May 1898. During World War One, he served in France with the 228th Battalion of the Canadian Army, with the rank of Private. He graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1926, and interned in Detroit, Michigan. He practised briefly in Wallaceburg, Ontario, and North Bay, Ontario, before settling. in Sudbury, Ontario, in 1928. He was in general practice until a year prior to his death, and devoted most of his time to obstetrics. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a Mason, and an active member of the Anglican Church of the Epiphany. He was also a talented pianist. Dr. Lawrence Hooey died at Sudbury, 17 November 1974, at the age of sevenety-six. He was sruvived at the time by his widow, Matilda, two sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren.
