Kate Eastman, teacher and secretary-manager, was born in 1887 at Oshawa, Ontario. After briefly teaching in an Aboriginal school, she joined the staff of the Foreign Press Service in New York. In 1921 she met Bliss Carman and later became his secretary, managing a cross-country tour of Canada he undertook in 1923/24. In 1924, Miss Eastman moved to Vancouver where she taught literature for many years. Her frienship with Carman persisted and they maintained correspondence for a number of years.
