Biographical history
Angus Joseph Macdonnell was born May 23, 1859 in Hamilton, Ontario. He attended St. Mary's College in Montreal. He served with the Ontario Bank from 1877 unitl it closed in 1906. He was the manager of the Bank of Montreal, Kingston Branch from October 1906 until his death in November, 1920.
Custodial history
This sous-fonds forms part of the Kirkpatrick-Nickle legal collection. The documents came from the law firm of Nickle and Nickle, which was founded by Thomas Kirkpatrick in 1828, and which continued under various names (Kirkpatrick Nickle) and with various partners until 1968. The Macdonnell estate papers were deposited, along with the papers of other clients of the firm, in Queen's University Archives during the 1960's.
Scope and content
The sous-fonds mainly consists of correspondence, legal documents and material relating predominantly to his personal life and not with his activities as a banker. Also included is material relating to two cases heard in the Supreme Court of Ontario: Macdonnell and Keefer, 1918-1919 and Marks and Keefer, 1917.
