John C. Newlands, architect, was born in Kingston on 5 October 1884 and trained in his father's office from 1902 to 1910. He was invited by his father to become a full partner in the Kingston firm of William Newlands & Son in 1910, and continued to work there until 1926 when his father died. John C. then began to practise under his own name in late 1926 and remained active until after 1950. During the Depression, he worked briefly for Colin Drever, and in 1932 both he and J. Arnold Thomson of Belleville, Ont. announced an affiliation or partnership, with dual offices in both Kingston and Belleville (Kingston Whig-Standard, 3 Feb. 1932, 3, advert.). Newlands then continued to operate his own office in Kingston. He later died there on 26 February 1958
In response to the growing HIV/AIDS crisis in Canada, Kingston AIDS Project (KAP) was founded in 1988 by a group of community-minded advocates to provide education to the community about HIV/AIDS as well as support to the growing number of people living with HIV in the Kingston area. To reflect the growing scope of KAP's services outside of the City to the counties of Hastings & Prince Edward (HPE), Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFL&A), as well as the counties of Leeds Grenville and Lanark (LGL) KAP became HIV/AIDS Regional Services (HARS) in 1992. They provide education and support to individuals and organizations in Kingston and the surrounding region including comprehensive services with regard to education, prevention, and support for people living with, at risk of, or affected by HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted bloodborne infections (STBBIs). HARS also has an advocacy role calling for broader social change to reduce stigma and discrimination. in 2022 HARS is renamed Trellis HIV & Community care.
William Newlands was born in 1853. His career as an architect began in Kingston sometime in 1883. John C. Newlands joined his father as a draughtsman in 1908-09, and by 1910-11 the two had formed a partnership known as William Newlands and Son. William Newlands died in 1926.
John Webster Grant was a United Church clergyman, editor, and academic. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, the son of William P. Grant and Margaret Dorothy Waddell. He married Gwendolyn Margaret Irwin in 1944. He was the editor of Ryerson Press from 1960-1963.
Newlands and Reid was an architectural firm in Kingston, Ontario. William Newlands established the firm in February 1888 with his draftsman, James Bruce Reid, who had worked under Newlands from 1885 to 1888. The firm was dissolved in January 1889.

Richard Arthur Preston was born in 1910 in Middlesbrough, England. Educated at the University of Leeds (B.A 1931, M.A 1932) and Yale University (PhD 1936). He was assistant professor at University of Toronto in 1945, Professor of History at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston (1948-1965), and Professor of History at Duke University (1965-1980), including the position of director of Duke University's Canadian Studies Program (1973-1979). Richard Preston was a prolific writer of articles and books. This includes "Kingston Before the War of 1812", and "Canada's RMC: A History of the Royal Military College."
