Custodial history
Scope and content
Elevations of the hotel. At this point little is known, except that during the month of August, 1892, J.C. Wilson was going to build the hotel. No mention of a hotel on the site was made in a brochure published by the Lake Ontario and Bay of Quinte Steamboat Co. Ltd. for excursions along the Bay of Quinte Route in 1905. Neither is it mentioned in Picton's 100 Years (Picton Gazette, 1937).

General note
Tenders published DBW 4 August 1892.DBW 6 August 1892, p.1: '"The Columbian," a commodious hotel to be erected in the vicinity of the far famed Lake on the Mountain, will be opened to the public next May.' DBW 24 August 1892: 'Mr. Wilson, formerly hotel keeper in Picton, intends erecting a first-class summer hotel at Glenora this fall. The building will cost about $10,000 and will be equipped with all the modern conveniences. Mr. Newlands, of this city, is the architect. The need of a summer hotel at this resort has been felt for many years. Mr. Wilson made P. McLaughlin an offer for the Windsor Hotel a short time ago.' DBW 25 August 1892: 'It is J.C, Wilson, who runs the large gristmill at Glenora, who intends building a summer hotel there, and not Mr. Wilson, hotel-keeper of Picton. Mr. Newlands, architect, says the projected building will cost at least $10,000, and will be lighted by electricity. Mr. Wilson also intends building a cable railway at the mountain and will do this even if the hotel is not erected this fall. Mr. Wilson owns the whole side of the mountain.
