Thomson (1791-1834) was born in Kingston, the son of the builder Archibald Thomson. He started in general business about 1810 as an agent for Quetton de St. George but gradually moved to bookselling and publishing. He entered politics in 1824 as a member for Frontenac and represented it until his early death in 1834. Thomson married Elizabeth Ruttan.
