Biographical history
Robert Swain was the Director of the Agnes Etherington Art Centre for eleven years. Prior to that appointment, Swain worked at the National Museum of Science and Technology (1967) and was Director of the Gallery/Stratford. After leaving Kingston Swain was Director of the Art Gallery of Hamilton; and acting Head of Development at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Swain has also served in a a number of professional organizations as President of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries, President of the Canadian Art Museum Directors Organisation, and secretary treasurer of the Board of the Canadian Museums Association. He was an author/curator of numerous exhibitions and their accompanying catalogues; articles in Queen's Quarterly;' Co-author with Robert Fulford of Hidden Values which accompanied an exhibition for which he served as curator.
