History

Queen's School of English started in 1942 as part of the Department of Extension, as its classes were only held in the summer. Now it is administered by the Faculty of Arts and Science, although School of English courses cannot be used for credit at Queen's. Originally the School of English only taught English to French-speaking students, but is now open to any post-secondary student whose native language is not English and who is over 18. The School's instructional focus is English for Academic Purposes.
