Administrative history
MacLachlan Lumber Company was founded in 1927 after A. Grant MacLachlan purchased Hooper and Slater, sash and door manufacturers, at 128 to 132 Ontario Street. It was first established as MacLachlan and Slater, with Thomas Slater staying on as partner with Grant MacLachlan. In 1935, Grant MacLachlan worked in Ottawa as Executive Assistant to Norman Rogers, MP for Kingston and the Islands and Minister of Labour. During this time, Ian MacLachlan, Grant's brother, joined the company.
In 1962, the name was changed to MacLachlan Lumber Company (Kingston) Limited. In 1979, the company purchased the land on which the company was situated, changing the company's legal name to MacLachlan Holdings Limited. At this time, it operated under the name of MacLachlan Lumber Company Limited, until closing in 198-.
