General note

Macaulay (1792-1857) was born in Kingston. Son of Robert Macaulay and Ann Kirby. In 1809 he entered the legal profession. He was also the Postmaster of Kingston & Justice of the Peace. In 1836 he was appointed to the Legislative Council of Upper Canada, and from 1838 was Inspector General of Public Accounts. He married Helen Macpherson in 1833 (died 1846) and in 1853 he married Sarah Phillis Young. In Oct.1855, he suffered and a stroke and died in Kingston on Aug.10,1857.
