General note
Kirby (1772-1846) was a very prominent merchant and magistrate of early Kingston. He was a brother-in-law of Robert Macaulay. He was Colonel of the 1st Frontenac Militia from 1821, and a member of the Legislative Council of Upper Canada. In 1822 Kirby married a widow, Mrs. Celia Bethune Wilkinson, who predeceased him in 1842. There were no children. He had a step-daughter, Amelia Wilkinson, who never married.
