History
Edward Johnstone was born in 1777 in Ireland. After acting as a local preacher for some time, he was called to serve as a missionary in 1809. In 1817, Johnstone was offered an opportunity to serve in the Canadas. Upon settling in Canada, he was said to add further tension to the feelings amongst local preachers and himself due to his initial landing in Albany, New York. The feelings of the War of 1812 were still greatly felt by the Canadians, and proved to be a problem for Johnstone. He returned to Ireland in frustration and later served in New Albany, Indiana where he finally died in 1858. Johnstone was married to Ellen OFlynn and had thirteen children, who mostly settled in the United States.
