This collection consists of correspondence to and from various members of the Singleton family of Eastern Ontario including Richard Singleton; his daughters, Ann Jane and Lena; his sons, Richard Thomas; and his wife, Florence Merrick, plus her brother, G.F. Merrick; financial and legal records (1878-1934).

There are approximately 100 individuals represented in this series with whom there was considerable correspondence. Among the most voluminous correspondence is that from Gilbert McMicken (secret service reports); Sir George Stephen; Sir Alexander Campbell; Hon. Edgar Dewdney; Sir Alexander T. Galt; Lawrence Vankoughnet; Sir David Macpherson; and Sir Charles Tupper.
