Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts, reports, subject files, political party materials, and records reflecting four decades of endeavor in numerous areas; correpsondence and MSS relating to articles appearing in the "International Political Science Review"; correspondence and articles relating to various international confereneces attended. The Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, Ontario Advisory Committee on Confederation, and the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission are covered in great detail.

The fonds consists of fifteen letters received and sent by John McDonald between 1816 and 1845, and a miscellaneous group of documents. One letter, from his brother Charles, is dated prior to McDonald's arrival in Canada; the remainder are from the period 1834-1845. Seven letters written by McDonald to his wife during the month of April 1839 give an account of the parliamentary session he was then attending in Toronto; among the topics are the Union and Clergy Reserve deabates, the Durham Report, school legislation and a Governement House dinner. A further letter to Mrs. McDonald (Dec. 14, 1839) refers to the sitting at which the Legislative Council (with McDonald in the Chair) voted approval of Union. There are two letters from political associates, Charles Bockus, M.L.A. for Prince Edward and James Morris, M.L.C., and two concerned with St. Lawrence Canal business. Finally, there is a cicular to shareholders in a steamship enterprise and a letter from McDonald's nephew, J.B. Baker, concerning the great fire of May 28, 1845, at Quebec. Also included is a writ of summons to the Legislative Council, to John McDonald, signed by Lord Sydenham and Thomas Amiot (June 9, 1841), and a four page holograph memorandum by Herbert Stone McDonald, describing a visit to a fortune-teller near Farmersville, Leeds County (Dec. 6, 1860).

A.L.S. to H. J. Morgan giving some historical information on the early days of the Ottawa Valley based on his father's life (Alexander McNabb) as a public servant in Ottawa. He discusses the Rideau Canal: the laying of the cornerstone by Sir John Franklin, gives reasons for its contruction and why Ottawa was choosen as the captial of Canada. He elaborates on Col. By and tells a story of the COlonel tearing down a brothel in Ottawa. Dated at Southampton, Ontario.

Letter (photocopy) to Duncan Campbell Scott, 1905 Nov. 8, in which he asks permission to include 'Piper of Arll' in a forthcoming anthology and describes the influence this poem had in interesting Masefield in poetry. Undated letter to unidentified person relating to the inclusion of the poem 'The days that make us happy make us wise' in a booklet. The collection also includes a letter to Mrs. H.A Bruce from Masefield, and a photograph of Masefield.There is also a handwritten draft of a poem written by Masefield which is entitled "Lines suggested by Her Majesty's visit to Canada June, July 1959".
