The drawings represent heritage buildings in many towns and regions in southern Ontario such as Adolphustown, Bath, Claireville, Cobourg, Cornwall, Grafton, Islington, Kingston, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Perth, Port Hope and Toronto. Two northern towns are represented by North Bay and Penetanguishene. The drawings represent a variety of structures from churches, clubs and rectories to commerical buildings, factories and mills. The material is organized alphabetically according to town or region.

The collection consists of non-photographic, panoramic maps of various Canadian cities and urban centres including Halifax, Lunenburg, Moncton, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Sorel, Brantford, Kingston, London, Ottawa, Port Arthur, Simcoe, St. Catharines, Tillsonburg, Toronto, Morris, Winnipeg, Victoria, and Yukon. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, major Canadian cities and urban centres followed a North American trend in having panoramic maps - more commonly called bird's-eye views - prepared. These non-photographic illustrations viewed cities from above at an oblique angle - a remarkable achievement in the days before aerial photography. They showed street patterns, major landscapes, and a variety of structures including churches, mansions, single dwellings, industrial plants, office blocks, retail and wholesale businesses, and government buildings.

The collection consists of literary news clippings on many of Canada's best-known writers including M. Barbeau, Rupert Brooke, L. Burpee, W.W. Campbell, B. Carman, Mazo de la Roche, Merrill Denison, W.H. Drummond, Sir S. Flemming, F.P. Grove, T. Haliburton, E.J. Hathaway, A Jameson, Pauline Johnson, W. Kirby, R. Knister, S. Leacock, N. McClung, J. McRae, W. Macdonald, T.D. McGee, A.M. Machar, Charles Mair, L.M. Montgomery, M. Pickthall, Sir J. Pope, E.J. Pratt, C.G.D. Roberts, M. Saunders, D.C. Scott, R. Service, G. Smith, A. Stringer

The collection was brought together from several family branches related to the Griers, particularly from that of the Cartwright family branch. The collection is comprised of additional material from the Addison, Butler, Farrell-Purnell, Matheson, Stevenson, Stewart,and Dobbs families. Included in the collection are correspondence, journals, photographs, accounts and mementos of Brigadier-General George Strachan Cartwright, as well as photographs and a commonplace book of Anne Leman Purnell and Harriet Dobbs Cartwright. Among the photographs are images of Aden, Yemen, Delhi, India and Niagara Falls from the 1890s.
