"A Multiple Rainbow Seen on the St. Lawrence River"

Copy of an article written by Allie Vibert Douglas entitled "A Multiple Rainbow Seen on the St. Lawrence River," reprinted in booklet form from the Journal of Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, October 1929. An article based on Allie Vibert Douglas' own sighting, for the first time, of a double rainbow in the Gananoque/Thousand Islands area, intended to publically record the phenomena.

The fonds consists of correspondence, lecture notes, speeches, articles, and memoirs as Professor of Astronomy and Dean of Women (1939-59) at Queen's University; President of the International Federation of University Women. Included is an article by Vibert Douglas titled, "Symbols in Stone" which was printed in the Queen's Alumni Review August, 1952. Also included is correspondence with Albert Einstein and others concerning Sir Arthur Eddington.

Speech(?) written by Allie Vibert Douglas entitled "Astronomical Reflections." Two copies, one handwritten, including corrections in the margins, and one photocopied. Undated.

"Astronomy in a World at War"

An address given by Allie Vibert Douglas during her presidency of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada on the place and purpose of astrology during the Second World War, dated Jan. 21, 1944, titled "Astronomy in a World at War." One copy is reprinted from the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in March 1944, sent as a gift to Olga Margaret Crichton Douglas, Allie Vibert Douglas sister-in-law. The other is reprinted from the Smithsonian Report for 1944 and was sent by Allie Vibert Douglas to her brother George Vibert Douglas as a gift.
