Major Edward Osborne Hewett was the first commandent of RMC (Royal Military College). Hewett's father John was a landowner in Glamorgan who had served as justice of the peace and a deputy lieutenant of the county. Edward Hewett was educated at Cheltenham College and at the Royal Military Academy.
