Biographical history
Alexander Grant MacLachlan (1897-1973) was born in Turkey and educated at Queen's University where he earned a B.Sc. in 1922. For many years Mr. MacLachlan operated a construction firm and later a lumber firm in Kingston. In 1936 he took a leave of absence to serve as private secretary to Kingston M.P. Norman Rogers, first in the Department of Labour and then of Defence. After Mr. Rogers died in a plane crash in 1940 Mr. MacLachlan remained with the Labour Department until 1941 when he returned to his Kingston lumber business. Mr. MacLachlan was a leader in many community activities and in 1956 was named Man of the Year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
