General note

Kingstons City Hall was built by government architect, George Browne, between 1842 and 1844. To raise money for the new building, the Mayor, John Counter, travelled to England in Nov.1842. On June 5,1843 the cornerstone of the new building was laid with great ceremony by the Gov.-Gen., Sir Charles Metcalfe.
