General note

Members of the Presbyterian Church, in order to keep their names on the membership roll, were required to take communion at specified times. As part of the procedure, communion 'tokens' were issued and then handed over by the communicant before receiving communion. These tokens were made of lead, oval in shape and approximately 7/8 x 1/8".
