The Office of Institutional Research and Planning was formed in 2000 and reported to VP Academic. Prior to that, it was called Resources Planning and reported to the Associate VP of Planning, who reported up to VP Academic. Resources Planning started in 1973.
The purpose of the Office of Institutional Research and Planning was to inform and support strategic and operational objectives at Queen’s with timely and relevant data, analysis, information, and recommendations. This was accomplished by collecting, generating, assembling, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating data and information. They also interacted and shared data with external partners and provided research results to contribute to decision-making initiatives within Queen’s.

Institutional Research and Planning is now part of the Office of Planning and Budgeting, which reports directly to the Office of the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).

This is the second largest academic press in Canada after the University of Toronto Press. It was founded as McGill University Press in 1960 as the only English-language scholarly press east of Toronto. In 1969, Queen's accepted an invitation to become a partner and share costs.
The press was on the verge of financial collapse in 1980, but survived by moving faculty members into editorial positions and temporarily reducing its size. Most of the Press's business arrangements are handled at McGill, but editorial decisions are made jointly at Queen's and McGill.

Martha and George William Lockyer emigrated to Canada from Bath, England in 1912. They began farming in Adolphustown and purchased a farm property two kilometres west of Picton. they had five sons: Sidney (b.1895), Alec (b.1897), Chris (b. 1898), William (b. 1900) and Ray (b1906).
