Currie, Archibald William

Archibald William Currie was born February 22, 1908, the son of Archibald and Minnie (Mosure) Currie. He attended Queen's from 1925 to 1930 and received both the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (1929) and Bachelor 0f Commerce (1930). He graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard in 1938 and received the Doctor of Commercial Science degree one year later from Harvard.

In 1931 he was appointed Director of Extension at Queen's, a position he held until 1938. From 1938 to 1945 he lectured in the Department of Commerce and Department of Economics at the University of British Columbia and in 1946 was appointed to the University of Toronto as a Professor in the Department of Economics, where he stayed until 1969. In 1963 he was appointed advisor to the Ministry of Transport in Nigeria and was a Senior Advisor to the Government of Fiji from 1970-1971.

He married Madeline McNeely and they had two children. Professor Currie died at Parkhill, Ontario, in 1989.

Sir Arthur Currie, soldier and teacher. Born at Strathroy, Ontario, he taught school and ran a business in Victoria, B.C. until the First World War. Active in the militia from 1893, Currie was given command of the 2nd Canadian INfantry Brigade when the war broke out, took command of the 1st Division in 1915, and was general officer commandin ghte Canadian Corps in 1917. Promoted general in Nov. 1919 and appointed inspector-general, Canadian Militia. Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University from 1920 until his death.
John Frederick Bligh Livesay (1875-1944), journalist and author. Author of "Canada's Hundred Days: with Canadian Corps from Amiens to Mons, Aug. 8- Nov. 11, 1918," an account of the campaign from the second battle of Amiens to the armistice, written in defense of Lt.-Gen. Sir Arthur Currie.

Marion Currie (née Spence) was born in Carleton Place, Ontario on 3 March 1904. She received her Honours B.A. in 1925 in Biology and Chemistry, and her M.A. in 1927, both from Queen's University. Marion passed away on 22 December 1994 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Curtis, Clifford Austin

Clifford Austin Curtis was born in 1899 in Smith Falls, Ontario. After attending the University of Toronto, he received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. He came to Queen's University in 1927 and by 1937 he was a full professor of Economics at Queen's and by 1956 had become the Head of the Economics department. He resigned his headship in 1964 and was then appointed head of the School of Graduate Studies. He was also appointed to the prestigious Sir John A. Macdonald Chair of Political and Economic Science in 1951. Professor Curtis was also involved in both local and federal governments. He was both Alderman and Mayor (1948-1952) of the City of Kingston and served with various federal commissions including the Royal Commission on Currency and Banking (1933) and the Royal Commission on Price Spreads (1934-1935). In 1954-1955 he was a member of the Ford-Harvard Planning Board for the Government of Pakistan. Professor Curtis retired from Queen's University in 1968 . He died in 1981.
