Formerly known as the Frontenac County Board of Education, the Limestone District School Board (its name changed at the time of the province-wide amalgamation process in 1999), serves approximately 23,000 students in 55 elementary, and 11 secondary schools, in the Townships of Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, North Frontenac, South Frontenac,and Loyalist MIlls; as well as the Town of Greater Napenee, and the City of Greater Kingston. The Board, with its central offices located at 220 Portsmouth Avenue, in Kingston, Ontario, is also responsible for the Limestone School of Community Education.

Ralph K. Shepard, an architect based in Toronto, Ontario, entered into partnership with Dexter Delano Calvin in 1913. Over the ensuing years they designed numerous commercial, financial, residential,and educational buildings. Included in this long list is nearly thirty banks in various Canadian provinces, the Brock Building, the Toronto Conservatory of Music, and the Ban Righ Women's Residence and the Douglas Library at Queen's University at Kingston. The firm dissolved upon the death of R.K. Shepard in 1933.

James Garfield Gardiner, born in 1883 at Farquhar, Ont., received his education from Manitoba College, Winnipeg, B.A. He became a farmer at Lemberg, Sask., and Principal of Lemberg Continuation School. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the electoral division of North Qu'Appelle, 1941-1934, and for Melville, 1934-1935, during which time he held the offices of Minister of Highways (1922-1926), Premier (1926-1929, 1934-1935), Minister of Railways (1926-1927), Minister of Education (1927-1929), and Provincial Treasurer (1926-1927, 1934-1935). Mr. Gardiner was also Leader of the Opposition in the legislative Assembly from 1929-1934. He was a Member of the House of Commons from 1936 to 1958 serving as Member of the Privy Council (1935), Minister of Agriculture (1935-1957), Minister of War Services (1940-1941), and Member of the Imperial Privy Council (1947).

Andrew Maxwell Henderson was born in Carshalton, Surrey, England on 24 March, 1908. After education at Mill Hill School, London, and Rollins College, Florida, he became a chartered accountant in Halifax in 1929. He married Beatrice Johnstone Maltby, a Toronto artist, on June 1, 1935 and they had one son, David J. Henderson, C.A. After a number of years with various agencies including C.B.C. (comptroller, 1958-60) Henderson was appointed Auditor General of Canada in 1960 by Prime Minister Diefenbaker and served under Prime Ministers Lester Pearson and Pierre Trudeau until his retirement in 1973. In 1974-1975 he served as administrator, and later a director of the Royal Ontario Museum and as a member of the Special Programme Review for the Ontario government. While Auditor General he participated widely as Canadian representative in international organizations: the Board of Auditors of the United Nations where he undertook several projects and studies, the Conference of Commonwealth Auditors General , and the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) where he served as president in 1971. Maxwell Henderson passed away in 1997 at the age of 89.
